Amy Jolly Kennedy '10 & Ryan Kennedy '04– Stickers, Scholarships, Forty-Niners

UNC Charlotte 49er Alumni Spotlight

Who loves stickers?  Amy Jolly Kennedy ’10 and Ryan Kennedy ’04 are a distinguished Forty-Niner family that have been turning stickers into scholarships for the Stephen A. Jolly Family Scholarship.  We wanted to share their amazing 49er story, Charlotte stickers and spotlight all the good this 49er family has done and continues to do for themselves, their communities and UNC Charlotte.

The Kennedy’s bleed green!  Amy graduated in 2010 after moving back to UNC Charlotte 49er Alumni SpotlightCharlotte from Knoxville to complete her degree in Finance and graduate from the Belk College of Business.  As a non-traditional student raising her daughter while completing her degree, Amy said she’s had the opportunity to make up for it with a decade of experience working as an ACE (Alumni Campus Employee) as the Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs at Charlotte. Both Amy and Ryan are Charlotte natives and have grown up in the area.  Ryan graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2004 as a Legacy Student with a BSEE in Electrical Engineering. Currently, Ryan is the CEO of Atom Power, Inc. a company that is redefining he power and energy industry.  As Atom Power, Inc. continues to grow, Ryan and his company’s roots are tied to the bricks of Charlotte forever as it was started in the Portal Building on campus.  Of course, the degrees and professional careers don’t make up the entirety of the Kennedy’s experience and relationship with UNC Charlotte.  The Kennedy’s have had many great memories tied to UNCC like meeting on campus, first football games, a trip to the Bahamas with their Niner Family, meeting new people and making lifelong friends, lifting each other up through tragedy...  and to top it off spending over 30 years growing up and watching this campus grow.

The Dr. Stephen A. Jolly Family Scholarship was established by friends and family to honor Dr. Stephen A Jolly and Cheryl C. Jolly.  Dr. Stephen Jolly began teaching Accountancy at the Belk College of Business at UNCC in 1975.  In 1980, Dr. Jolly was the recipient of Bank of America Award for Excellence in Teaching which is UNC Charlotte's most prestigious teaching award. Mrs. Jolly cared for a number of students as a nurse on campus for over 20 years.  As you can see the Jolly’s roots run deep through UNC Charlotte. Amy and Ryan seek to continue their families legacy through this scholarship.

As you can see Amy and Ryan come from a Forty-Niner family and continue the tradition in their families of excellence, success and giving back.  Their family embodies what a Niner is – hard work, dedication, commitment, and a philanthropic spirit.  It began with Stephen and Cheryl and will be continued by the Kennedy family.  Amy wanted the UNCC Community to know, “UNC Charlotte will forever by my second home and I'm happy to be able to give back and continue to follow in my parent’s footsteps as advocates for this university.”
